NETstat FAQ
The Most Innovative and Affordable Web Design
and Hosting Company in Nevada
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer dial-up internet access?
No, you will need local internet access in order to maintain your web site.
Because we have devoted all of our resources to Web Hosting, and do
not have the added overhead of dialup services, we are able to give you
Premium Quality Web Hosting services at very affordable prices.
What is Virtual Web Hosting?
Web Hosting is the most cost-effective way of having your web-site
on the Internet. Through our Internet connections and dedicated
web-servers, we are able to offer you a place to store your web site where it
can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, through the use
of your own Domain Name (ie www.YOURWEBSITE.com) you can maintain the
prestige of having your own internet address (so as not to suggest that you
are using a web-hosting provider). Also, since email can be addressed to
your domain name, you'll never have to change email addresses again, even
if you change access providers.
What is the difference between Non-Virtual and Virtual web hosting??
The main difference between non-virtual and virtual hosting is the address
used to access the web site. A non-virtual web site uses the domain of the
host followed by your account's username, an example of a non-virtual web site
address is: http://www.webstorage.com/~classic. A Virtual web site has its
own domain name for an address, such as http://www.YOURSITE.com/.
Can I upgrade from a non-virtual to a virtual account?
Yes, you can upgrade from a non-virtual hosting account to a virtual hosting
account at any time. There is a $30 fee for the switch, which covers our filing
for your domain name, and the conversion of your account. The switchover does
not involve creating a new account, so there will be no need to re-upload your
files, and after the switch, your old non-virtual address will continue to work
so there will be no need to change any old links.
How long does it take to set up a new account?
Orders submitted before 5pm PST on a week day which include payment
information will be processed the same day! Once an account is set
up, an activation notice will be sent to you via email which includes
all account information. You may begin to upload your files immediately
upon receiving this activation notice. Domain accounts may use their
dedicated IP number to access their site via the web while their domain
registration/transfer is pending.
Can I have my own domain name?
Yes, anyone can have their own domain name. There are certain guidelines that
InterNIC posts as to proper use of domain name, we have listed them here for
you:
.COM is for commercial, for-profit organizations.
.NET is for network infrastructure machines and organizations.
.EDU is for 4-year, degree granting colleges/universities.
(schools, libraries, museums register under country domains)
.GOV is for United States federal government agencies.
(state and local governments register under country domains)
.ORG is for miscellaneous, usually non-profit, organizations.
(orgs/individuals that do not clearly fit in any of the above)
How can I check domain name availability?
We have set up a link to Internic to help you search for your new
domain name. The form is available at: The Internic official who is site.
Does NETstat Associates handle domain registration?
Yes, we will contact the InterNIC once your account is activated and
request either a new domain name registration or transfer. You do not
need to submit a registration or modification template to the InterNIC
as this will only delay the process.
Can I transfer my existing domain to NETstat Associates?
Yes, please be sure to specify on your order that you are requesting
a transfer and not a new domain registration. You should maintain
your present site until it is confirmed that your domain transfer
has been completed. Once the transfer has been completed, there is
a 72 hour period in which visitors could go to either
site. At the end of the 72 hours, you should contact the previous
host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update
their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your internet
access, you will not be able to access your domain site at NETstat Associates until
they update their DNS.
How long does it take before my domain name is active?
The registration/transfer process can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks
depending on the backlog at InterNIC registration services. Upon request,
we can inform you of your InterNIC registration tracking number so that
you may follow the progress of your registration with InterNIC. Once your
registration is completed, it may take up to 72 hours before your domain
becomes active.
What is the InterNIC fee for domain registration?
The InterNIC charges a $100 fee for registering a new domain name. This
fee covers their $50/yr service charge for two years. When we register
your domain, we will list you as the billing contact. InterNIC will invoice
you directly for your domain name, they may take anywhere from 3-6 weeks to
invoice you for a new domain.
