Farewell Message from Shaynee Smith,
1996 Miss Southern Nevada USA
Even though a year has passed, I still sometimes find it hard to believe
that I have been lucky enough to reign as Miss Southern Nevada USA 1996.
From the Special Olympics to the Miss Universe Pageant, each event I have
participated in has been enlightening and memorable. Having this
incredible opportunity has proved to me that with work, faith and
determination, dreams can be achieved. I believe that the largest dreams in
life come true only with the help of others and I would like to thank
those who have not only lent me their hands, but also their hearts.
I would first like to thank my parents. I have been truly blessed to
have two wonderful people that have stood by my side for the past 21 years
and believed in me even when I wasn't sure if I believed in myself. I
would not be standing here tonight if it weren't for you both.
Matt, I often feel like you are the older one. You have taught me so
much. I hope you know how incredibly proud I am of the person you have
become. Grandma and Grandpa, thank you for always making my life seem so
magical. You have both made it much easier to see the beauty in everyday
situations. Jill, when you walked into my classroom eight years ago, I had
no idea what an impact you would have on my life. We have shared much
laughter, many tears, and you have always accepted me for who I really am.
I would be lost without you.
Debby, thank you for always putting up with me, but most importantly for
providing this state with a reputable pageant system. You have helped turn
so many girls' hopes into realities. You always say, "Believe that you can
and you are halfway there," and with you behind me for the other half I
feel like I can accomplish anything.
Thank you to Alicia for your beautifying skills, Lou Garcia for always
making me feel like a queen, Laura Hobbs for your great advice, and the
Jacobs for your encouragement over the years. To everyone else who has
supported me, I will be forever grateful.
Ninya, I knew I had big shoes to fill when you passed down this crown.
Best of luck in February; I will be rooting for you. Reyna, I was so
fortunate to reign with such a genuinely sincere and beautiful person. Good
luck in the future; I know it will be a bright one.
And to my successor, enjoy every moment of this year and be proud to
hold such an honorable title. |
