Title Holder Responsibilities

Most pageants expect title holders to attend a certain amount of functions to advertise their pageant. Sometimes these responsibilities are laid out in a contract that must be signed and followed by the winner and other times thay are explained in the entry form for the pageant. If you enter a state or higher level pageant you should expect to make appearances, at your own expense, through out the year of your reign.

Many queens are surprised by the amount of appearances they are required to make or have conflicts between their schedule and the pageant's appearance schedule. If this happens to you talk to your director right away and try to work out a compromise. Most directors are very willing to work with their Queens. Do not just skip appearances that you are expected to attend!

One way to ensure that you will have the resources to be a good Queen is to read the contract or expectations before you enter the pageant. If you can't afford to travel to your appearances or don't have the time to attend the number of functions you are expected to, then don't enter. This also goes for Queen of Queens winners. If you can't make your appearances, don't accept the title! I know the crown is tempting but it is not fair to the pageant and other Queens to have to take up the slack for you. Remember that there are many pagants and you can find another one that fits your budget and schedule.

Another option is to talk to the director before entering and work out an agreement that will fit both of your needs in case you win. This is a fair compromise and works well. I have done this on numerous occassions because I own a business and live a considerable distance from most appearances, but I still want to be involved in pageants. As I said before, most directors are very willing to work with their Queens. They are also willing to work with contestants. Just keep your director involved and informed and be aware of your responsibilities before you enter.
